The Potency of Prabhupada’s Books

Quest for Enlightenment book

October 9, 2001 Please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada's transcendental book distribution.

I just wanted to share a nice experience we had in Athens, Ohio recently. My friend Mukunda Madhava and I were distributing books on the campus there, and I met one guy who was really interested and took a Quest for Enlightenment. He said he would pass it on to his friend, Luke. He told me that this friend of his had been trying to get him interested in Krsna consciosness. I was a little curious to find out more about his friend who was not only interested in Krsna consciousness himself but was also preaching to his friends. He gave me his number, and later that night I called him. He was very very grateful and happy that I had called. His friend had given him the book and told him that I might call. He had already read the first chapter.

He explained to me that he had grown up around devotees and his family had even been part of Iskcon communities at different times but he himself, being very young, never really understood what it was all about. Just recently, though, within the last few weeks, he had picked up a copy of the Sri Isopanisad and his heart had really been touched by it. He was really impressed by the philosophy, and he told me that reading it actually gave him goosebumps.

Anyway, he really felt like it was Krishna's arrangement that we had come through town at that particular time and had come in contact with him.

On our way out of town Mukunda and I stopped at his house briefly to give him some bhajan tapes. He invited us in, and after talking for a while we did a little chanting. He said he would be interested in having a program the next time we were in town.

A few days later Candrasekar Swami and I drove down there to do some sankirtan and to meet up with him. We ended up having a nice little program at his house, and he actually came out with us on books for two days. He did really well for his first time.

Your Servant,

Anandavidya Das
