Lord Caitanya: The Savior of The Most Fallen

Lord Caitanya: the savior of the most fallen

The day after the monthly community sankirtan festival had concluded down here in Wellington, New Zealand, I felt so inspired that I wanted to keep going and try to distribute some more books. Bhakta Mitchel Prabhu was a big part of this inspiration, because he was superenlivened to have distributed his first two hard Gitas during the day-long festival.

So I put a few copies of the Gita in my book bag and headed to the Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Newtown. Before the group sharing, a friend of mine pulled up next to me as I was reading in the car. Let’s call him Joe. He’s a former Satan’s Slave biker, and from some of the stories he’s told me of his biker days, he would give Jagai and Madhai a serious run for their money. I’ve always wanted to try and get him to take a book, since underneath all the gruff biker persona he's a big softy, despite years in jail and loads of bad association. I opened his car door and presented him a copy of “Hiding in Unnatural Happiness.” I said to him, “Joe, this is my teacher’s new book. It’s only five dollars, and the donation will bring you good karma.” He’d relapsed into shooting up meth over the last few months and had been struggling to get sober again. “I could use some good karma,” he said, and gave five dollars in gold coins from the dusty car ashtray.

During the group sharing, another friend of mine related how at work she’d seen a story on the front page of the newspaper describing how her former boyfriend had been arrested in Ecuador with a kilo of cocaine and was facing a massive prison sentence. She went on to tell of all the abuse she’d suffered at his hands, but how due to low self-esteem she couldn’t break away from him but instead took shelter of drugs. After the meeting I approached her with “Hiding in Unnatural Happiness” and told her how the book had helped me so much and that I would really like her to take one. She gave me five dollars and took the book.

It's so wonderful to be an instrument of Lord Caitanya as He showers His causeless mercy upon the most fallen souls of this age, including me.

Your servant,
Bhakta Steve
