Having a Hard Day

Airport of Los Angeles.

Dear Book Distribution Arena,

Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Thanks for all the encouragment to go out and try to make anothers day better. Here is one story from the airport in Los Angeles.

The day was Bhaktivinode Thakurs merciful appearance day and Mrtyujaya Prabhu and I were distributing books in terminal five, Delta. Los Angeles has a very beautiful arrangement for book distribution, being that a devotee brings all of the individualized lunches for all of the devotees at the airport. On the blessed event of Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur's appearance day, all persons intersested fast on that day, and being so we at the airport terminl #5 were very anxious for that saintly devotee to bring us the Lord's remnants. (Side note in L.A. the lunch is definately Krishna's Mercy because always maha-sweets and other delicacies from the Lord's plates.

Att 1:30 P.M. that blissfully trying afternoon I put down the books and went outside to pick up the lunch, but at 1:45 the Lord's Mercy still had not arrived. After calling Sura Prabhu at the BBT office and relaying the message to him; he thanked me and said that the afternoon prasadam would soon be there. Normally in such a situation I find it very easy to get agitated, but that day Srila Prabhupada's mercy was upon me.

After telling Mrtyunjaya about the situation and reassuring myself that this had somehow happened before Lord Caitanya allowed me to again face the crowds. At that time I approached a lady from Czech Republic. Then after having her search her mind to remember the transendental devotees from Czech, that she had seen numerous times on harinam, the atmosphere changed.

She had only one book in her hand and I told her the top secret mantras, then she released a twenty dollar bill with the statement 'Is that enough'. Having read through the Nectar of Book Distribution' and remebering what that great stalwart sankirtan participants had recommended to do, I replied with a 'You can give more'. Then with that she gave ten dollars more and I gave her the Higher Taste in her open hand and a Srimad Bhagavatam 1.1 to rest on the book she already had in the other hand. As this went on I said 'You can have these and if you want to give a little more you can. She replied with 'Thomas Jefferson', a twenty dollar bill and all the best wishes. Haribol!

Your Indebted Servent,

Jnana-caksus dasa Brahmacari
