Giriraja Swami’s advice to us
A few evenings ago, our traveling sankirtan entourage was blessed with the audience of His Holiness Giriraja Swami. This association was just like nectar as our four-week trek came to a close.
First of all, I think I made spiritual advancement just by observing him and his movements. He gave us maha-prasad and then imparted transcendental knowledge into our hearts in the form of sankirtan instructions. The points I remembered are as follows:
1) Throughout the conversation, the sincere book distributor will earnestly pray to the Supersoul within the individual to convince him or her to take the literature.
2) If we meet an exceptional individual, it's Ok to spend more time with him.
3) Our enthusiasm and empowerment on sankirtan comes from the "overflow" from our sadhana. A strong morning program is essential.
The following morning I tried my best to apply this advice. I approached one boy at a community college, showed him the books and prayed to Paramatma and my spiritual master for him to become a devotee. What followed was a 45-minute discussion with the most sincere, genuine person I've ever met on books. He told me he's been having realizations lately – how everyone is lonely – how he's been looking for books like this and was amazed that this spiritual science even exists. He was drinking in the nectar as if he had a hundred million ears. His questions were excellent as well.
By the end of our discussion, he only had one dollar, but I gave him a Bhagavad Gita and Science of Self-Realization anyway so he can at least have some connection to Srila Prabhupada. We exchanged emails as well.
May he become a pure devotee of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in this life!!!!!
