Recently, Niranjana Swami told me about an interesting person in Kiev, Ukraine. This person is an Orthodox Christian, but became attracted to Krsna consciousness after getting a book. He tried to live in the temple as brahmacari, but it was to foreign to him. So he went back to live in the Christian monastery, though still chanting sixteen rounds a day. Some years ago he decided that he wanted to visit India, so he started saving his money for the trip. He's a monk, so money is very scarce. But gradually he was getting the fare together. One day at the temple there was an announcement that there was going to be a "shastra dana" meeting in the evening. He found out from the devotees that "shastra dana" was a temple department that organizes the distribution of Srila Prabhupada's books to schools, libraries, book stores, etc. So he went to the meeting. Towards the end of the meeting the devotee making the presentation asked if anyone would like to donate for the cause. This devotee who had been saving to go to India reached in his pocket and gave all that he had been saving to go to India: seven hundred dollars. He was so inspired to have Prabhupada's books distributed that he gave up his cherished desire to go to India and surrendered everything.
