Bhagavad Gita will Suffice

Bhagavad Gita

There's no experience quite like distributing a Bhagavad gita.

Bhagavad gita is unique because it directly emanates from the lotus mouth of Sri Krsna. It attracts all kinds of people. It is sufficient in itself for God realization.

"Because Bhagavad-gita is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one need not read any other Vedic literature. One need only attentively and regularly hear and read Bhagavad-gita. In the present age, people are so absorbed in mundane activities that it is not possible for them to read all the Vedic literatures. But this is not necessary. This one book, Bhagavad-gita, will suffice, because it is the essence of all Vedic literatures and especially because it is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead." (Gita Mahatamya 4)

This morning at San Francisco Airport I was distributing mostly hardback Bhagavad gitas and Bhagavad gita CD ROM's.

Early on, I spied a couple of young men who looked to be in their mid or late twenties. They were casually dressed in kakki pants and button-down shirts. "Java" badges dangled from their carryon bags, tipping me off to the fact that they were computer engineers (which of course would have been an easy guess anyway since they were young, on business in San Francisco, and appeared to be from India).

I gave them each a Bhagavad gita CD ROM and told them that since Indian people already know everything about Bhagavad gita and most of them have one in their home, we've specially produced this high-tech version of the Bhagavad gita; In fact, I noted, it is perfect for the modern Indian engineer.

I offered them my observation that in today's world many people believe that if they could just get ahold of a million dollars they would become happy. But most people intuitively know or would least agree that this is not true. Bhagavad gita teaches, I continued, that real happiness comes from the re-awakening of our spiritual nature through introspection. Finally, I informed them that we accept donations to continue the work of spreading this knowledge around the world. They both happily — and without hesitation — donated.

Before parting, I asked them what area of India they were from. "We're actually not from India," one of them said with a slight smile, "We're from Pakistan." (They were Muslims!) He then patted the Bhagavad gita CD ROM he had tucked under his arm and said, "This is important work you are doing. Thank you very much."

All glories to the Bhagavad gita!
Param vijayate sri krsna sankirtanam!
Your servant,
Vaisesika Dasa
