A Bhagavad Gita For a Lover of Music and God

A Bhagavad Gita For a Lover of Music and God

[The following was written by Titiksava-karunika Prabhu (universally known as TK), a devotee-musician who writes Krishna conscious rock songs and sings them alone or with his Namrock band in the US and abroad.]

What do I do when not playing a Namrock gig? Well, one thing I do is play solo at the World Market swap meet. I always have some books with me on display. One day I started chatting with a man who said his son was also a musician, on tour with his band in New York City. But the son had just called him and said, "Dad, I don't want to play in this band anymore. I'm coming home."

His father asks, “Why? You’ve been rehearsing with these guys for three months, and now you’re on a successful tour.”

“The drummer and bassist are doing drugs, and I don't want to be around that. I want to do my music for God.”

I thought, “Wow! That's far out.” I offered to give the man a Bhagavad-gita for his son. He said, “No, no.”

Then I said, “It's not for you but for your son.”

“OK, but I'll have to go get change for a 20.”

“There’s change right there in the hat,” I replied. “You take whatever change you want.”

So he takes only $5. I thought, “Wow! That's a 15-buck donation!” I said, “Please take a CD as well. And tell your son that you met another musician who wants to use his music for God.”
