SKP news, the October 2015 newsletter

Hare Krsna, Two countries increased the most in October: Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan. Sri Lanka increased by 999%, with 4,111 book points. We haven't seen a lot of book distribution there, but from now on we'll probably see more. Just as in Sri Lanka, Ravana was defeated by Lord Ramacandra, similarly, maya will be overcome by Krsna in the form of books whenever people receive and read them. Kazakhstan also increased by 999%, with 3,964 book points. Despite all the difficulties these devotees have faced, they continued distributing books,...

Books Bring Great Devotees

I was at a gathering of lady disciples of Srila Prabhupada who were relating their memories. Here are two book distribution stories told at that meeting. Jagajannani mataji had been reading Prabhupada's books, ordering them by mail order. She became anxious to meet devotees. She and a friend went to a University campus where four bramacaris were doing Harinama. There was a young boy with them, so she talked to him for a while and at one point she asked, "Wow, this singing Hare Krishna they are doing is so nice, I wonder, if I joined,...

In the Navi Mumbai station

Anand Ram Prabhu and I were distributing books in a train. When we got down at Nerul Station, a policeman caught us. "A good offense is the best defense." I immediately began asking him to take a Bhagavad Gita. He said, "You are selling in the train. Show me your permission." I told him that we are not selling, but preaching, and whoever reads this Gita will be a productive citizen. The policeman said, "Rs 1200 fine you have to pay." I humbly told him that we are not vendors. We're coming from our...

Doha airport: Yound people meet devotees

Doha airport: Yound people meet devotees

I had an interesting experience in the Doha airport, with my wife, in transit from Mayapur to Moscow. Doha is a materialistic city, completely based on the idea of shaping the landscape through the use of money and technology. It offers an artificial oasis of sense pleasure in the middle of the desert, opposite to the Vedic idea of a civilization based on natural resources and spiritual advancement. We had a long wait there, and we were traveling with a small harmonium, so this was a good opportunity to chant...

Krishna Reconnected me with “My Faith”

Last night, at a university in Toronto, I set up a table outside our event room, and displayed some books and beads on a nice table cloth. A girl stopped to see this as soon as she arrived at the event. I welcomed her, and we did her registration. I asked, “How did you find us?” She got a card from someone. And a girl in Kensington Market gave her the Bhagavad-gita two years ago. I asked, “Oh, did the girl look like she was from India?” She said no, the girl was white. Then I asked, “Was it...

A young Vietnamese man & a man with a $2 bill

While I was distributing at Cal State in LA, a Vietnamese lady approached my table and looked with curiousity at my books. I showed her the Gita and explained some of the contents. She said she had some interest in it, but didn't read English very well. I asked her whether she lived in Los Angeles, and she said yes. So I replied, "Then you must be learning English. You can practice with this book." (Satya-narayana Prabhu's BBT books in Vietnamese are not out yet; otherwise, I probably would have had one with me.) She said it...

Hearty exchanges in Cardiff

While travelling with my spiritual master, I had an opportunity to go on book distribution at Cardiff central. On October 7th, I met Mike, who'd already met devotees and gotten a Bhagavad Gita. He read it a long time ago. I tried to inspire him to read it again and try to chant the maha-mantra. Mike agreed, saying that he feels like getting back into it. I suggested that he get Srimad Bhagavatam (1.1). He happily agreed and suggested he would go to get some donation for it. A couple of minutes later he brought back 20 GBP, which would be...

World Sankirtan Newsletter for September 2015

Hare Krsna, Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Srila Prabhupada! September was a good month, as always, thanks to all the sincere book distributors worldwide. Next year is the fiftieth anniversary of Srila Prabhupada founding ISKCON, and on this occasion devotees will hold events and celebrations. Book distribution, as everyone knows, is very dear to Srila Prabhupada and was a big factor in his spreading Krsna consciousness throughout the world in a short time. So we would like to celebrate by distributing twelve million books...
