Some appreciation…

This is a letter sent to us by Indradyumna Swami: Dear Sir, Yesterday my family and I attended your event, the Festival of India, in Mielno. It was a wonderful experience. I read about Lord Krishna as a teenager when one day, by chance, I came across a book called, “The Science of Self Realization” in a local library. I was only 10 years old at the time and it wasn’t easy reading. Even today I am still trying to grasp the deep knowledge within that book. One thing I have understood from reading it is that my present life is...

Guru and Gauranga are so kind

My full schedule didn’t leave me with much time to get out on Sankirtan. I only had a 20 minute slot available, but still I wanted to try and make some small offering to Srila Prabhupada on his appearance day. It was a sunny day so I started distributing on the very street I live on in Petone, Lower Hutt. Amazingly almost everyone I met took books and 8 pieces of literature went out! The session got off to an auspicious start when I met a nice, sincere, Christian Gentleman who took the time to bless me. He asked Jesus to bless me in...

Christian student accepts a Bhagavad-gita

I was distributing flyers for an upcoming event in Perth, when two young men approached me and asked me what I was doing. I told them about the event and mentioned that I am a student of Bhagavad-gita. One man, Rabindra, is from Nepal and is studying the teachings of the Bible in a university. His desire is to study it himself so that he can share the teachings, and love of God, with others. He asked me what points struck me the most in Bhagavad-gita, and I mentioned that knowledge of the soul and karma were the most significant lessons for...

The right medicine

The other day, I was distributing books on the walking street of Oslo, the capital city of Norway. Usually, I do not often go to the walking street, only when we also have a harinama party. This time, as very often lately, another devotee came with me and did the harinama all alone, sometimes playing the harmonium, sometimes the mrdanga. I distributed books around him. As Srila Prabhupada wrote in a letter to Ravindra Svarupa on January 5, 1973: “It is always better if there are also some devotees chanting loudly in the street. If there is...

The Gita revelation

The Gita revelation

Standing on a corner, surrounded by skyscrapers, people in business suits, cars honking horns, and the scattered homeless people, we felt a bit peculiar handing out the Bhagavad-gita to all passers-by. The only thing we could do in such a situation was to pray for a miracle. I was accompanied by veteran book distributor Bhrgupati Prabhu. Although the environment was bitter and harsh, his association kept me clearheaded and healthy. As we showed this golden book to busy pedestrians in pursuit of wealth, we met with overwhelming rejection. At...

Distributing books at an exhibit at Ratha yatra in LA

A woman came by the table at the vegetarian exhibit at the Los Angeles Ratha-yatra and picked up three books and gave a nice donation. When I asked what brought her over to buy the books, she said that she'd been listening at the Question and Answer booth and was impressed by the speaker's knowledge. One man came to my book table with his children. After surveying the exhibit, he looked me right in the eye and said, "What do you have to say to someone who knows very well that he should not be eating meat, but no matter how hard...

As I travel around the world trying to encourage book distribution, the devotees thank me so much for this book distribution google group, because, they say, the stories inspire them to go out to give Krsna’s message. Many of the experiences devotees have on book distribution are so nice, so naturally other devotees are inspired by them. Unfortunately many book distributors are keeping their experiences to themselves. Please, please, prabhu’s, if you have a nice experience on book distribution, send it to me. Don’t worry if...

The most interesting Krsna and another life saved

I was distributing at a touristy area in Denver Colorado when I approached a man offering him the Bhagavad Gita. He said, “No, not interested.” So I asked him, “Do you know what it is?” “No.” “Then how do you know you’re not interested?” “Good point, alright show it to me.” I showed him the pictures and explained a little. Then He said, “This is actually very interesting and I’d like to give you a donation. He gave a nice donation and went on his way with Krsna, who...

The beginning

From Mitra das conversation with Jambavan das Jambavan was in SF when book distribution started. The temple was broke, the rent took all the money they had, there was nothing left for food or anything else. Keshava, the temple president got some wooden begging bowls and cheap rose incense sticks and sent us to Market and Powell. We’d collect a little out there to keep us going a little longer. We ran out of Back To Godhead magazines. We had nothing else to sell. Meanwhile, this shipment of Krishna books sat in our basement. They’d...

The biggest Bhagavad gita

The biggest Bhagavad gita

While visiting an influential friend in London, I noticed a very large Bhagavad-gita in his living room, five times bigger than our Deluxe Gita. Only a hundred and eight of them were printed by the Meditteranean BBT (Madhu Sevita Prabhu). They cost about $1,300 each. They were published with top VIPs in mind. The London temple gave a copy to my friend because of his long-time support of the temple. It must have weighed around twenty pounds. Your servant, Vijaya Dasa...
