The face reader got it right

Once I was distributing in a train at the Secunderabad Railway Station, and I met a face reader (an astrologer who just by seeing the face or a photograph of a person tells about the person). I showed him a Telugu Bhagavad-gita, and he saw Srila Prabhupada's photograph on the back cover. He said, “This person is very intelligent.” I confirmed it and said, “If you read his book, you will also become very intelligent.” So he took that Bhagavad Gita. The most intelligent Srila Prabhupada, ki jai! Your Servant,...

What a coincidence!

On a Monday afternoon, in the recent mid-year marathon, Bal Gopal, my husband, and I were trying a little book distribution along the busy Lambton quay in Wellington. Nobody was showing much interest at all. We were on our way home from serving Krsna Food and had to stop at the bank to deposit the takings from that day. Inside the bank, I held up the Science of Self Realisation, showing it to Bal Gopal, and recited the Panca Tattva mantra, pleading aloud: “Please, Gauranga, let us meet one sincere person who will be interested in buying...

Don’t forget and always remember

We recently heard from Chaitanya Vihara Prabhu about his experience on book distribution in his neighborhood – within just twenty minutes. He's a doctor, but he found time to go out with books, and he had some really nice experiences. He's not a full-time book distributor anymore, but he knows the importance of book distribution, so wants to continue this service when time permits. Many of you devotees receiving these stories were previously full-time book distributors, but now do other services. Please don't forget and...

Krsna showed me that we are not just distribution machines

An e-mail came to my address. It was an order for Bhagavad Gita As It Is. The lady ordering it got some of our books and some she had two of, so she wanted to exchange the extras for different titles. I responded, saying she can come to our temple for the book exchange, and I'll send her a Gita. Then we went traveling, on a Janmastami maraton, during which I was meditating upon leaving a nice impression on people who do not take the books. One day a young lady passed by. She was in a rush but happy to see me. I offered her a book,...

One who knows

We were going to Kumbha Mela on rikshas and trying to reach ISKCON's tents. Our riksha driver thought that many of the tents were the ISKCON tents, so he was driving us all around. It was already after midnight but we could not find the ISKCON tents. Since we were tired and sleepy, we stopped by some tent in which the people there allowed us to stay overnight. The party was about to begin. A few hours later, I was awakened by a strange smell. These people didn't follow the principles. They were smoking some intoxicant. Although...

Emptying a trolly full of books started with an emotional exchange

In Vysoke Myto, a small city in eastern Czech Republic, I was alone, having been dropped off in the morning by my sankirtana partner. As we do in these smaller areas, we spilt up to increase the number of books being distributed. So alone in the small city with a trolly full of Srila Prabhupada’s books, I was looking forward to a new adventure. In the morning, the streets were nearly empty, so I visited some shops. In one shop, I showed a lady in her fifties the books. She responded negatively, saying, “I don’t want these books....

A sure way to please Srimati Radharani on Radhastami

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the divine appearance of Srimati Radharani, famous as the best devotee of Krsna. No one can please Krsna as well as Srimati Radharani. In a purport, Srila Prabhupada says, “She is the tender-hearted counterpart of Krsna.” Lord Caitanya is known as the most compassionate incarnation of Krsna, because Lord Caitanya is not only Krsna but also Radharani: Sri Krsna Caitanya Radha Krsna nahe anya. When devotees go out to distribute books and the holy name of Krsna, Radharani is very pleased, because this gives the...

A bouquet of flowers for . . . (surprise!)

I was distributing books at a community market in Australia, where I met a florist who had a booth. He was happy to take the Bhagavad-gita and a few small books. He gave a generous donation and on top of that, he gave me a bouquet of flowers. He expressed his interest in visiting the ISKCON farm, New Govardhana, and said he would come for the Sunday feast. I was happy to meet such a favorable person and pleased that he gave me something special to bring back and offer to the Deities. I stuck the stalk of the bouquet into my backpack, and the...
