One tough day on sankirtan turned out well
I’ve been in Germany for a few weeks visiting my family and was trying to sell some books this past week while I had some time off from family visits. In the town where I was, it seemed to be quite difficult to distribute a lot of books to the many hard-wired Germans. A lot of people didn’t speak much German or English, and many other fundraisers besides me were also on the streets. So I was meditating on something Devamrita Swami told me once — I should just think, “I could meet one person whose life could be completely...

I visited a shop some years ago in NZ. At that time, a lady attendant informed me that she had a male friend who, in a darker period in his life, was helped significantly and crucially by the Hare Krishna yoga process and by the Hare Krishna devotees. She made a donation and received a Hare Krishna book. Today, on 22 December 2021, I revisited this shop and there was a male attendant. I told him the story. I asked the question: “Did that statement refer to you.” His answer was: “Yes, indeed!” With his right hand, he reached into his cash...

Lots of people have taken the books and are very inspired. As soon as we arrived at this station, they quickly took all the books from me. I went for more, but the devotee who had a wheelbarrow of books left to go somewhere, and when I called him, he hung up and turned off his phone. I was upset because time was going by. I still felt tired from doing the morning puja, my body hurt, and now there were no books. I think, “What is this?!” Then a devotee appeared and said that a yoga teacher had invited him, who wanted to arrange for...

An interesting day: My favorite minibus brought me to the town center, but there were very few people there at 11:30. Maybe many were afraid of being bombed and stayed away. I didn’t know where to go next. So I decided to stay in this place and read Prabhupada’s books while waiting for people. Eventually, some people took a few. Then more and more people came out and took a few books. Nice sunny day, despite the obstacles. People stood and photographed the places that were bombed, and at that time I offered them books. One woman...

The day began with no electricity and communication in the temple. Not a single toilet worked in the center. Also, it was slippery outside and heavily raining. When I got out on the street, there were Christians who wanted to save the fallen souls, but in spite of this and everything else, people still took books. They are very worried about what further awaits us in this world. One of the first men, as soon as he saw me, was very happy and said that he has been waiting for this knowledge for a long time. God sent it to him, and he was ready...

I saw this law student in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with a japa bag around her neck, and I asked her how long she’d been meditating. She responded that it has been a few years, and I then showed her the Gita. When she said she already has two other versions, I aroused her interest in our Gita by showing the pictures and the verse where Krishna says that He is the chanting of the holy names. I put all the books in her hands, asking for a donation to cover the cost of printing. She left a generous amount and kept them all. Some great sankirtana...

I continue to distribute books. Even though the military is trying to catch and recruit all young men, Krsna protects me. I walk along the main street, and of course I look around, but I continue to offer books. The people react very well and take books. Krishna protects me from the military. On a recent Saturday, I was at a big market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and people took 115 books. Then I went and dined at Food for Life and continued distributing until 6 p.m. The people took another 107 books. They took 222 books in a day. It was an...

While I was distributing books at Balboa Park in San Diego, a couple came to my table. I made my presentation, and the girl showed some interest. I asked for a donation. She said, “I don’t have any change.” I responded, “I have change.” Her boyfriend took the book from her to give it back to me and said, “No thanks. Not interested.” I said, “Your girlfriend is interested in some wisdom. To interfere with her getting this wisdom is bad karma.” I handed the book back to her and said,...

I continue to distribute books in Chernivtsi. I meet a lot of refugees who come from varios cities (Kyiv, Kharkov, Mariupol, Chernigov, Nikolaev). They receive Srila Prabhupada’s books, which previously they may have hesitated to buy for various reasons, but which now have relevance for them. I also tell them that the devotees continue to feed refugees prasadam, no matter what, even in hot spots. People are appreciative of the help of the devotees. They are very grateful and donate lakshmi to this program. Here’s a photo from...
