Just like a postman delivering a letter

We saw a person walking to his car in the parking lot with his small kid in one arm and a bag in the other. We hesitated to approach him, as he would feel uncomfortable talking to us with his hands full. Soon, the man had settled in his car, so we went to him and showed him the “Krishna” book and the Bhagavad-gita. Seeing the books, he immediately said, “Let me call my wife, as she is into all these readings.” She was in an Indian grocery store in the mall, and he informed her that the ISKCON people are here with the “Krishna” book and Gita....

Never a dull moment on sankirtana

For hours I was trying, and no one was stopping. I was just catching flies. I started praying to Jiva Goswami & Vamanadeva: “I know I’m unqualified & a very fallen soul, but if you so desire please give me little mercy; use me as an instrument of your compassion.” Then this fine gentleman and his son walk up to me and start telling me how much they are enjoying The Gita mp3 (made by Kamalesh Patel Prabhu of Laguna) that they got from me in the past. The father spontaneously picked up the four volumes of the Gujarati Bhagavatam I...

Students pondering who they are, and life & death, get Gitas

While distributing books at San Jose State University, I talked to a student who was confused. She asked, “What is my real identity?” Showing her the picture of the changing bodies in the Gita, I explained her identity as a spiritual being, now covered by layers of gross and subtle bodies. It was big news for her to hear this knowledge. She was happy and said that no one had ever told her about this. She took a few books and decided to practice mantra meditation to realize her spiritual identity. Later, while thinking about the...

Flip a coin, call it right, and I’ll take your books!

I was distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. It’s a small school and it was also a Friday – generally a slow day. Nonetheless I started meeting very nice people, and every time they were taking a book or a pamphlet. I then came upon a student who showed a decent amount of interest, but was on the fence. He said to me, “OK, tell you what. If you flip a coin and call it in mid-air and it lands on the side you call, then I’ll give you a $25 VISA gift card.” I agreed...

The immense power of Srila Prabhupada’s books

I was distributing at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and, as usual, was stopping people by asking, “Did you get one yet?” A student stopped and said, to my surprise, “Yeah, man, I have these books. Krishna is my Lord and Master.” I asked him, “Which one of these books did you read to come to that conclusion?” He pointed to the “Journey of Self Discovery” and said, “That book changed my life. I actually found it on the ground about two years ago, and when I read it, I was convinced that Krsna...
