Flip a coin, call it right, and I’ll take your books!

I was distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

It’s a small school and it was also a Friday – generally a slow day. Nonetheless I started meeting very nice people, and every time they were taking a book or a pamphlet. I then came upon a student who showed a decent amount of interest, but was on the fence.

He said to me, “OK, tell you what. If you flip a coin and call it in mid-air and it lands on the side you call, then I’ll give you a $25 VISA gift card.”

I agreed and said, “OK, looks like I have to get it right then.”

I was recalling a similar situation, when a young man said that if I beat him (2 out of 3) at “rock paper scissors,” then he would give me $5 and take a book. Krishna willing, I won that time, and Krishna willing I’d get it right this time, too, so he could get the book.

I flipped a coin and called heads and then caught and slapped the coin into the palm of my hand. When I removed my hand I saw that it landed on heads.

“I got it!” I exclaimed.

He then smiled and took the gift card out of his wallet and gave it to me. He took two books and went happily on his way.

Hare Krishna!

Your servant,
Brajananda Dasa
