LET US ALL DO WHATEVER WE CAN Letter from H.H. Giriraj Swami Dear Devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Recent events (Sep. 11th) reminded me of the following statement by Srila Prabhupada: "Human society, at the present moment, is not in the darkness of oblivion. It has made rapid progress in the field of material comforts, education and economic development throughout the entire world. But there is a pinprick somewhere in the social body at large, and therefore there are large-scale quarrels,...

Some Nectar Stories from the Marathon.

I was at central train station, Sydney Australia, and had just finished an exchange when amboy about 14 years old came up behind me and said "Excuse me sir, I've been watching you, do you mind if I give you some advice" I said "Sure, I need all the help I can get". "OK, lose the hat, lose the bag, stand up straight and alway's finish with a firm hand shake, I'm not racist but don't stop the Asian's because the're close minded, I noticed you don't stop many women, you should stop them...

Bali, Indonesia

Although the island of Bali has only about four million people, there are more than four thousand devotees here, and many are active book distributors. Two days after I arrived they held the Prabhupada Marathon awards ceremony. Fifty devotees received awards — three of them doctors. In fact, there are quite a few devotee doctors there. While I was staying at the home of Padma Locana Prabhu, a bank consultant and book distributor, he related an incident that had happened while he was distributing books. He had already distributed all day...

Fanning the Spark

I was in Bondi, Sydney, distributing books. I stopped a teenage boy. He looked very interested as I showed him Bhagavad Gita. He was very eager but was a little worried when I asked for a donation. I told him to give what he could. He dug out his wallet and had a few dollars in coins. I could tell he was eager for spiritual life and didn't want to sell him short. I gave him a Perfect Escape (small book by Devamrita Swami). I told him that this was a start off and if he liked this book then he should give me a call and I will give him some...

Srila Prabhupada’s Mercy Is for ALL

As we looked down the list of all the libraries in Pretoria South Africa, one stood out: the Winterveld library. This was the only library that had no phone number. Not knowing how to contact Winterveld, we called the head office of the Community Libraries of Pretoria and asked if they had a phone number or a physical address. But they said they had no contact information for this library and they'd never communicated with them! That was quite strange. To top it off, all Google searches for Winterveld library in Pretoria also proved...

The Marathon in Finland

Dear devotees. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga! All glories to His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada! We were distributing in a town called Toijala. It was quite cold and also otherwise it was a very tough day, as nearly all the people were difficult to deal with. We had decided to stop distribution at 6 P.M. Just before the set time I met a man in front of the local bhoga-shop. He said, "A monk. Really! I have always been interested in Buddhism." I was presenting the First Canto to him and...

Yes, there must always be competition, that gives life, that cannot be separated from life!!?’

Monday, 25 December, 1972 ' Bombay My dear Sri Govinda, Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated December 5, 1972. I am greatly pleased to hear from you that you have increased the selling books five times more in Chicago centre. That is very good news to me. Yes, there must always be competition, that gives life, that cannot be separated from life. Sanatana dharma means the strong will utilize the energy of the weak, the weak must serve the strong, that we see everywhere, is it not? Who can deny? So...

Moscow temple and Prabhupada Marathon

Dear Maharajas and Prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!   On behalf of Moscow devotess I would like to submit a short report for the last year.   We just finished a very ecstatic marathon during which 35 thousand books were distributed. It is almost double in comparison with the last year, and almost 4 times more than in 1998. The best devotees distributed 5000, 4000 and 3000 thousand books respectively within one month. At the same time there was no competition spirit, or result oriented...
