Two travelers pick up books
Met a man today with two suitcases. I asked him why he looked more peaceful than everyone else, and he said because he has suffered so much. I showed him the Gita, but he said he had the Gita. I showed him "Searching For Vedic India," which he immediately took a liking to. He said he is going to India next year. He gave $20 and took the book. (He said that he was an upscale homeless man. His wife had left him and his kids had abandoned him, so he is now traveling the world). I had him chant Hare Krishna with me before he left. Met...

Dear Prabhu's, Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga, all glories to the sankirtan devotees of the Lord! During Srila Prabhupada's 2003 December Book Distribution Marathon, I sold a book to a Russian lady, who told me that she was a ballet teacher for the Cape Performing Arts Society. Before she had come to South Africa during the early Communist years, she had been a principle dancer for the world famous Bolshoi Ballet Dance Theatre. She gave me a donation and I thanked her for taking Srila...

“That is a fact, this plan of sankirtana is the only way, the only way for our success. Sankirtana, love feast and selling Back to Godhead they are our primary engagements and next temple worship. Temple worship is needed for the inner section. In the beginning, sankirtana is more important for drawing the attention of the people in general. Last night, I went to see our men chanting in Hollywood Boulevard and I saw it was so fine and...

Indian Cricket Team's opening star batsman Shikhar Dhawan visited our temple and took darshan of Sri Radha Gopinath yesterday. He came just before Gaura Arati. He made good donation twice and took a set of Srila Prabhupad's books – Bhagavad Gita, Krsna Book, Teachings of Lord Caitanya, SSR and SB 1.1. He was very down to earth and a pious person. He walked in to our temple as just another guest and Hamsa Prabhu greeted him with his trademark "Aap kaise hain?". He distributed books to him without even knowing that he...

by Dwarakesa das I was distributing in the international terminal at the Los Angeles Airport when I approached a man who was coming down the escalator. "Excuse me, sir, are you from LA or out of town?" He replied, "Can't you see I'm in a hurry? Don't bother me." Then he went on his way. Two minutes later he came back and asked if the books I had were spiritual. I said, "Yes they are." "Oh, I didn't know! Yes, I would be interested in having those books." I gave him three books-SSR, JSD,...

During the Prabhupada marathon in Upper Hutt, near Wellington, NZ, I tried stopping a young Maori lady with a pram as she entered a burger shop. She gave me the cold shoulder – didn't even consider stopping. Soon after I stopped another young Maori lady who was very interested in the Gita, though she didn't know much about Krsna or Eastern wisdom. Being fifty cents short of the recommended donation, she said she would get more from her sister in the burger shop. I told her not to worry (I was concerned that the sister in the...
