Used by the Lord
"You guys are Krishnas, right?" he asked. He said that he had met devotees in Toronto, but then started talking about various other books. He was obviously just killing time.
It was cold, and I didn't think he was interested in taking a book. Then he asked, "So, how did you guys become Hare Krishnas?"
"From chanting Hare Krishna," I replied. It was a friendly, humorous exchange, but I was hoping it would end soon so I could go home.
"I chanted Hare Krishna before," he said.
"That means you're going to become a Hare Krishna," I answered, before I realized what I was saying. I don't usually say things like that.
"Yeah, I chanted it once at the Krishna temple in Toronto so they would give me some food."
"That means you're going to become a Hare Krishna," I repeated. By this time the mood had changed, and we were both smiling and laughing. Then, to my astonishment, he asked, "What kind of books do you have there? I like to understand things."
I couldn't believe it. After giving a donation, he walked away with the Nectar of Instruction. I couldn't help but feel that I had been used by Lord Chaitanya. It was a good feeling.
