The Security Guard helps out

Car park at a mall in Mt Manganui, New Zealand

As I was returning to the underground car park at a mall in Mt Manganui, New Zealand to restock on Gitas I noticed two shady looking guys both with caps and sunglasses on, I thought it was amusing considering it was cloudy and raining outside.

After getting their attention I passed them both a Gita.

Guz looked Maori but it works out hes Brazilian bodied brought up in Holland, with a strong Dutch accent.

He has an ongoing history with the Bhagavad Gita. Holding the Gita upright he looks at me sternly, ÒTell me, is this book about Lord Krsna?

He said he had met many people distributing the Gita over the past 4 years in different places around the North Island of NZ. He was an unusually big reader and was a fan of Deepak Chokra and reader of books such as Ôconversations with God.Õ I thanked him for his recommendations to read such books.

He asked me some twirly questions, which I answered by throwing around some big words, just then a security guard came rushing into the exchange hovering over the boy holding the book questioning him if the blue van (our Sankirtan vehicle) belonged to him and if he was selling books in the mall. The boy clicked what was going on and played the game. The guard was confused as to who was actually distributing the books so he said generally to the three of us that we should not sell books in the car park and mall and left. We continued talking as if nothing had happened and the guard watched close by for a minute then walked back inside the mall. The exchange got heated with more inquiries but then he told me he wouldn't take the book, as I tried to convince him that it had come to him today for a reason. The security appeared again, more fired up than before and quite sure that the brazilian was the book distributor. Again he pointed to our van and asked if it belonged to him. Guz said no my car is over here and proceeded to walk quickly to his car, we all followed, Guz leading with the Gita in hand. We were all now at Guz's car and he nicely played the role of the book distributor telling the security that he was leaving the mall. As the security left the scene satisfied he had cleared out the sankirtan soldiers, we all crouched down so the gaurd wouldn't see us and Guz threw his hands in the air, and laughing said he was convinced I was the one selling the book, I think this means I should get one then! We walked to the liquor store at the back of the mall and he gave me $20 change from his 12 pack of beers. I and another Devotee continued to distribute for the rest of the night without being found.

Here is an example of the potency of being met again and again, its just a matter of time before the people take Srila PrabhupadaÕs books.
