“The Best Instruction a Manager could give”

Suburb in Auckland, New Zealand

I was distributing outside a supermarket in a little suburb in Auckland, New Zealand.

I stopped a couple on their way inside and asked, "Are you married?" They said, "No."

I put a Gita in the hand of the guy, his girlfriend didn't want him to stop. She had an Indian body and he was Caucasian.

It turned out that he worked in the supermarket and was on his way back to work after lunch.

His interest in the Gita was keeping him stationary for the time being despite her jaunts and whispers for him to give the book back.

Then from out of the supermarket came a tall bearded guy pointing at me, descending on our exchange, I thought it was the staff coming to remove me from outside of their store.

As he got closer he said, "Hey, do you remember me?"

And then I recognized him. It was Dave!

He and I had met a few times before in different parts of New Zealand and he had gotten two Gitas, one for his family and one for himself. Really nice guy. So it turns out Dave is the manager of the supermarket. He looks at his employee, who is still standing there with a Gita in his hand, and Dave says to him, "You should buy that book, its the best book you'll ever read. This is the best philosophy, and if you go to their restaurants you'll taste the love in the food."

Of course this boy was listening to every word his manager was saying so he pulled out his wallet and started to give money, much to the dislike of his girlfriend who was making sure he didn't give too much, then Dave said, "Give all you've got. I will give it back to you before you finish work tonight."

So the boy, happy, and his girlfriend, unhappy, went into the supermarket with the Gita.

Dave told me he is regularly chanting now. Then he said about his employee, "He is a good kid, I always wanted him to read literature like the Gita so he can become more spiritually minded."

The best instruction a manager can give.
