Sweet last night for Marathon book distributors

Srila Prabhupada

During the last night of the December book marathon (2013), at 11 p.m. the Manakau Westfield mall had just closed.

Munjaranya Mataji and I were also ready to end the marathon, but we tried Vaisesika Prabhu's trick: “We'll just go and have a look at the spot.”

Driving around, we concluded that the Kmart, though very busy, may not be safe this late at night. Driving to the Warehouse, I could find no good reason not to distribute there. While finding a parking place I encouraged myself to continue one last hour by suggesting that we just stay until we had both distributed two books.

Munjaranya, an unstoppable ball of fire with limitless enthusiasm, challenged me to make it three hardcover books each.

As I was opening the car boot, four Islander men walked to their car, which was next to ours. I caught their attention, and one came close enough to receive a Journey of Self Discovery in his hand. I simply told him that I present spiritual knowledge by distributing nice books for donations. The kind man handed me $50.

Bewildered, I looked at the note in my hand, then at Munjaranya, and asked the man, “Is this for me?”

He asked, “This isn't Christian, is it?”

“No.”

He smiled and confirmed that it was for me. Munjaranya and I were containing our laughter as we quickly searched the boot for the best books to give this fortunate soul. He happily drove off with his $50 Christmas “combo” as I gratefully relished this sweet reciprocation in the final hour of the 2013 marathon. Thank you, Srila Prabhupada, for this heart-satisfying service!
