People Read more than we think, and the World is Becoming Vaikuntha

Hollywood Farmers Market

I was distributing books at the Hollywood farmers' market when I approached a man and showed him the Bhagavad Gita.

As I was showing it he said to me, "I've read that book six times my favorite book in the world."

I said, "You mean this one by A. C. Bhaktivedant Swami Prabhupada?"

"Yes, He's a great writer."

We had a talk about the BG, and I gave him an invitation to our Sunday program.

An hour later I was speaking to another man about the Gita.

Then he said, "I've read that book three times."

I couldn't believe it. Some of the so-called nondevotees are reading Srila Prabhupada's books more often than some of the devotees. For this one, Krsna inspired me to try to get him to take another big step in devotional service, so I showed him the Krsna book.

I said, "The Gita was spoken by Krsna, but this is about Krsna, I think you'll like it."

He was very pleased to get the Krsna book and the opportunity to go a little closer to Krsna. I gave him an invitation to the temple also, he said that he had visited before and enjoyed it.

A few minutes later a lady came up to me and asked, "I notice you have the Bhagavad Gita with you do you know where I can get one? I've been looking for it."

I said, "Well, today is your lucky day, I'm here distributing them for donations."

She was very happy to hear that and gave a nice donation.

I began to think, "This isn't a farmers' market anymore. It's turned into Vaikuntha."

Your Servant,
Vijaya das
