Krsna ‘s books are all attractive

We were scheduled to distribute in Liverpool, one of the suburbs in Sydney, Australia. Maya's agents were out to get us from square one. The elevators and escalators were closed all throughout the underground system, our choice of transport for the day. This caused us great delays and even caused some boxes to topple over but finally we made it.

Liverpool was a very multicultural area and we were seeing more eastern clothing stores than western clothing stores as we approached the centre. Although multicultural was good, if you went into the local mall you would be shocked to see how much meat was up for sale. Besides all the general Asian and the Pacific Islanders, we found many Europeans flooding the streets with gold and silver crosses around their necks. You almost had to have an opening line of: "Excuse me? Are you a catholic or an orthodox?"

After a slow day filled with taunts and instructions to take to Jesus, I began to worry that I would have a day that almost no books went out. I don't do too many books normally but this was looking to be a radically smaller day than usual for me. I tried to conjure up some sincerity and pray to Krsna for some miracle.

Within a few minutes from my prayers I stopped an elderly man, seeing no one else to stop and with little faith I tried to show him a book. Although I didn't think he would take it at first I surrendered and presented it to him. He seemed curious and maybe even interested. He walked over to a bench, where I thought he would want to sit and chat. I was a little worried he wanted to sit and have a long chat, I cautiously followed. Not being a fast pace high scorer I had the freedom to 'indulge' a little in some talk.

We talked for a short time. He revealed at one point that he was Christian (but then again so was everyone else around the place). Within the midst of our light conversation he decided to show me his bible, which he had just purchased. I was a little worried at this point, as most devotees may be, and was ready to run away from a bible bashing. The bible had a crocodile skin style cover; it had a zipper and inside had gold tipped pages.

In fear of loosing favour I complimented his bible. "It's very nice." I said. While I was saying this, a Chinese gentleman on the bench was overlooking the whole scenario. "Yes but probably expensive I bet." he added. The man refused his proposal and went about showing him a receipt insuring it was quite cheap. The docket had $40 Aus written on it. I was shocked but grateful to the lord for giving me an angle to reintroduce my book. "Yes our books are usually that price in stores but today we are just handing them out for a donation."

I showed the Chinese man my Gita. He started to flip through it and point out how it was all the same thing only different techniques and languages and cultures. He had been studying religions on some website and so was very much into it all (jnani). I ran over to my box while he 'preached' to my potential book buyer for me. I let them talk and encourage one another for a while and then put my foot down and quoted a donation price.

They all gave me my books back while they reached into their wallets. While I was showing them the books a young Indian lady came behind me, seeing my Bhagavad Gita and wanted to buy one also. I told her a simple donation price and had to hold the stack of books while they were all fiddling in purses and wallets and bags. The original man I stopped took an SSR, the Chinese man took a Gita and so did the Indian lady. We may be powerless but if we let Krsna take control we can be the observers and instruments to amazing things.

Your Servant,

Madhavendra Puri Dasa.
