High thoughts, high thinking on the front lines

Today was one of my worst days on this trip. Even though I feel that I was kicked around in the fire of sankirtana, or, better yet, by the material energy, still I sit here waiting to meet up with the sankirtan van, drinking a lemon/ginger drink and thinking “Krsna is the taste of water.” Even without effort, I still feel Krsna's presence in my consciousness. But I earlier felt moments of tears behind my eyes when no one was taking books. While doing my service at the temple in Los Angeles, I feel that my life is simple and...

The truck flipped three times . . .

I was distributing books at Western Kentucky University last week when I met a young man who became very excited when he saw the books I was distributing. As I showed him the books, he kept remarking "No way, no way!" Then he said to me, "I have to tell you something, but I have to meet with a teacher really quick." So I gave him my number and he called me after ten minutes. We met up again, and then he told me the story. He explained how he and his friends had been in a bad accident some months back. The F-250 truck that...

While in Minsk, Belarus, I was going around distributing books with Vaninatha Vasu Prabhu. I asked him how he joined. He was a doctor in Minsk, a cardiologist. One day, walking down the sidewalk, he saw a devotee at a book table. He stopped and asked about the books. The book distributor said, "They're about you, what you are, and what you aren't. You're not the body, you're the soul within." He had never heard such a thing before, said with such conviction. Impressed by the young man's response, he asked him,...

Pious police and security officers get books

While distributing books from a table at a local college, I had one of the garlands of Sri Sri Rukmini-Dwarkadish (the Los Angeles Deities) on the book table. The garland attracted people with its beautiful colors and fragrance. It particularly caught the attention of a female security officer. She was so attracted to the garland that she ran over and said, "Where did you get this? It's beautiful!" I told her that it was from our temple — and now it is hers! I put it over her head. She was stunned. She said, "No, no,...

Mysticism in Melbourne

Whilst distributing on Queen Street in central Auckland, I stopped a man from Columbia. Sebastian used to be a peace activist, arranging protests against the drug trade, and now he is earning a Ph.D. at Melbourne University. As I presented Bhagavad-gita, he showed much interest. Then, however, he started intently examining the back cover of “Hiding in Unnatural Happiness” which I was holding in my other hand. Suddenly he grabbed the book. As he looked at the picture of Devamrita Swami on the back cover and exclaimed: “I know that man! One and...
