In Convent Gardens, London

by Candrasekhar Aacarya Dasa
In Convent Gardens, near the Soho temple, I met a young man as he walked along with a very beautiful girl.
I asked him, "Is this beautiful lady your girlfriend?"
He replied modestly yet with confidence, "Yes, she is."
I said, "Wow. That's great."
I continued, joking, "But you know what? This ancient scripture from India says that when a man has a very beautiful wife or girlfriend, it's actually a curse in disguise because he always anxiously thinks, "Is she going to run away with this man or that man?"
They both laughed. He looked nervous. I showed him Prabhupada's books and described them. When it came to deciding whether to buy the book, he stood silent, completely indecisive. I urged him to take the books, but still he hesitated.
Then I looked him right in the eyes and said in a serious voice, "Look, if you buy this book, she will never leave you."
I knew I had said the right thing. He looked at his girlfriend, who nodded in approval, and he gave me a donation and walked away with Srila Prabhupada's books, more confident than before.
