How It Pleased Him
How It Pleased Him
By Satsvarupa dasa Goswami
Distribute books. They’re out on the street with a big stack of Prahbupada’s books and non-larcenous lines,
just repeating what he’s said in his writing, “this Bhagavata Purana is as brilliant as the sun,” and the people listened and handled a volume from the stack.
“Just give a donation.” He gave five dollars. That’s enough. Someone else gave them ten. The books went out.
The distributor lost his fear and grew confident and happy in his heart, and remembered the things Prabhupada said about book distribution.
“They will certainly go back to Godhead… everyone should go out with the sankirtana party.”
He says he feels more at home standing in the street than back at the temple. Ten books in an hour. One book in half an hour. He’s patient and thinks how Prabhupada took a year in 1965 before anything happened. “The best way to be recognized by Krishna is by preaching. The best way to preach is by distributing books. And the best time for distributing books is during the month leading up to Christmas— during the Prabhupada marathon.”
Think big. They’re standing with a tall stack of hard-bound books. They approach people and say something from Prabhupada’s books about Krishna and the value of the book. He takes a book. The transaction is complete.
Think big. They stay out late at night. Come back with no books and lots of money and a tired back and a blissful heart.
This is the season for the competition, for the hard work, for the great success of flowing out the books of Prabhupada.
How it pleased him more than anything. He thanked the devotees for their best effort. He meant it from the heart. The world was changing by the distribution of the books.
