Culture Fest
Hare Krishna.
Today in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A there was a culture fest. The lady who organizes it called the temple and asked the devotees to be there. I went down there and there were some booths and some people there so I started distributing books. It went nicely. It was slow but steady and many nice people. I met a man who saw the devotees at woodstock. Then I gave a book to a lady who is from Somalia and she remember the devotees from the 1970's in New York. She was a muslim but she said she loves the peaceful chanting and flower power that devotees are know for. She asked me what happened to the devotees. She missed seeing us around spreading peace and love. She said the world needs our message now more than ever. I agreed and said that the leaders of our movement got corrupted by money and power and changed things so now it's just a few of us that come out and preach. It's picking up though gradually. The 80's was a lost decade of decadence so it's taking time to recover. She appreciated the honesty and got a book. Then the Mayor of Columbus was out looking at the festival. I approached him and told him what we were doing and he gladly took a book. It was a good preaching experience. I hope that the leaders of our movement will start preaching about book distribution, Prasadam distribution, Harinama and preaching like they should be and then devotees like myself won't have to be embarrassed daily and have to explain to people why we aren't doing what Hare Krishna's are supposed to be doing.
