Letting the books fly
I was distributing books in Melbourne and approached a young man wearing shorts and a sleaveless shirt. I was showing him the Science of Self Realization and explaining the contents. He was interested and wanted to take the book, but said he had no money. I mentioned that we use card readers for credit cards. He said, “I can only take money out from the bank.” So I thought, “Oh well, I guess he won’t be taking...
Lucky thief
I met this nice middle aged Indian gentle man. I was trying to show him Bhagavatam, since usually Indians say they have Gita. To my surprise he pointed to the Gita and says, “Can I have that instead?” I said enthusiastically , “sure!” It turns out that he is visiting from Florida and some one smashed his car window in hotel parking lot and stole the Gita from the car. He was in the middle of reading the book....
Front cover of newspaper sells books
It was time for taking Prasadam so the three devotees who I was with in New Plymouth (small town NZ) had met me outside the mall this fine Saturday. We were gathering our book boxes to head to the car when a Maori man (pictured below) approached us asking in a soft timid voice how much our books were. Being the closest to him and rather eager after three hours of next to no books going out I quickly jumped to speak with him. Turns out...
A new technique
During the Woodford festival in Queensland, Australia, I had some interesting experiences. An elderly man came to the table and said, “Ten years ago, a friend of mine and I came to your table, and he got a Bhagavad-gita from you. Then, after reading it, he gave it to me.” I said, “To keep the flow rolling, how about if you get a Bhagavad-gita and give it to a friend?” “Yes, I’ll do that. That would...
Tracy finds a clue
I was distributing books in the Northern England town of Chester, when I met a middle-aged lady called Tracey. On approaching her with a Bhagavad Gita, she said she already had one, that she practiced ‘Transcendental Meditation’ and had lived in a TM Community for some time in the past (devotees are probably familiar with ‘TM’, the movement started by Maharishi Mahesa Yogi, whom Prabhupada critized for the...
The nectar of Arabic book distribution
Myself and Kautukarnava Prabhu launched out Arabic book effort on 15th December. Unable to locate a promising spot while operating in ‘testing the waters’ mode, we decided to start from the Pharao’s Egyptian Sandwiches on Geary Street in San Francisco. Much to our disappointment, the eatery turned out to be a deserted place, but it had a Halal Store, called the ‘Salama Halal Meat’ next to it. This store wasn’t on our itinerary,...
