Book Distribution in Nairobi

Nairobi

Dear Prabhu's,

Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to our most dearly beloved Srila Prabhupada, all glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga, all glories to the sankirtan devotees of the Lord.

While distributing Srila Prabhupada's books at the University of Nairobi, I approached one lady, introduced myself and showed her Srila Prabhupada's books. She told me she was the librarian.

"Well then you would be interested to see these books," I said. She read a little and told me that she did not think that she would be interested in them as she was a Christian.

"That's alright, these books are not about religion – religion tells you what to do. These books tell you who you are and how to find out for yourself."

She looked at them again, but no, she had her own religion.

I told her that there is only one religion, just as there is only one God, who is the creator of everyone. She shook her head and looked at her friend and whispered something to him and nodded her head again. I began to explain to her about the soul and its relationship with God. She said something to her friend again and nodded her head.

"When are you going to stop letting fear and doubt rule your life. Do not be a doubting Thomas, there are so many things in this life that we have not yet learnt or discovered. For too long your wings have been clipped, grow you wings and learn to fly, become a free spirit and learn to fly above the temporary nature of material existence and be free," I said to her.

She kept silent for what seemed like an eternity of seconds, then she said, "You are right, I think I'll take the book," she then gave me a nice donation.

Srila Prabhupada ki jay!

On the Friday before I left Nairobi, I went to distribute Srila Prabhupada's books at an upmarket shopping center. I was amazed at how many favorable people there are in Nairobi who are attracted to Srila Prabhupada's books. The first shop I went to was a shop that sells computer hard and software. I spoke to a young lady who's father owns the shop, I showed her a whole set of Srila Prabhupada's books. While speaking to her she was called to the phone. She came back and said it was her father, she told him about the books that I had and he said to his daughter that she take them. She took the whole set and gave me 1,500 shillings.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

The city of Nairobi is a wonderful place for distributing Srila Prabhupada's books, although there is a different mood as compared in SA. The Africans here are not so stressed out like the people of SA. So many have come up to me even when I am showing Srila Prabhupada's books to other people, take the books and ask very nice questions. While distributing Prabhupada's books, one African man approached with an amazingly effulgent smile on his face and said, "Hare Krsna." I asked him if he had ever met the devotees before. No he had not, but he had seen them. He told me that he was a medical doctor – I gave him a Coming Back. He shook my hand and said he admired what I was doing. I gave him my email address, before he left he shinned that same amazing smile, and said "Hare Krsna!"

I met a very nice African couple, the husband was a NGO worker and his wife was in IT. We spoke for some time as they both looked at Srila Prabhuapa's books with great interest. The man told me that he practised meditation. He asked me what book I would suggest he take. I gave him a Quest For Enlightment. Then the wife asked her husband, "Please, can I have one too?"

"Why sure, which one do you want?"

They both took Srila Prabhppada's books and got his mercy.

Srila Prabhupada ki jay!

Yours in the service of Lord Sri Krsna and His devotees,

Hare Krsna

Madhumangala das.
