Book Distribution from Mumbai

Book Distibution in Trains

"We Just can't do it!!" Bhakta Parimal rejected the proposal. As they turned to me, I flustered, "Well..er..mm, I mean" I was not sure myself. Vitthaldeva Prabhu insisted, "Prabhus, this is the best time to do it. Let's just go for it". We had our apprehension, although we knew it wasn't a bad idea after all. We wondered how the crazy Mumbaiites would react. Will the people appreciate our attempts…won't it be unbefitting the sadhus…is it too bold… and many other such doubts clouded our minds. As we indecisively stood there.. another speeding local train left the station. Time was running out and we had to act fast since it was already 7:00 p.m. The peak hour traffic of Mumbai's working class would barge into the train with resounding war cries, hurling abuses at one another and pulling and pushing each other. No one dared to stand in their way.

As we entered the train we already were soaked in sweat due to the heavy book bags. Finally we made our way through and found ourselves facing a dense crowd of around 150 people around us. Parimal suddenly began to scream, " Help! Help! I am drowning! Somebody please save me!" Suddenly the whole compartment was gazing at us curiously. Then as if from nowhere Vitthaldeva came running and screamed aloud, "Don't worry I'll save you" After a brief tussle he picked up the shawl worn by Parimal and shouted, "I've saved him! I've saved him!". The passengers were amused. Meanwhile, I completed my part of making the "savior" as well as the audience realize the difference between the body and the soul. I told them about this vital knowledge as given by Srila Prabhupada in his books and pushed a book in every person's hand. Much to our surprise many books were distributed. As we got off the train we had managed to distribute 22 Big books in a new and unique way.
