Sankirtana Ki Jai

I was in Northern Wisconsin fixing my RV for a week and then went to The Twin Cities in Minnesota for a while to distribute some books and see some family members. There is now a good group of devotees in Minnesota so I went to one of their nice programs. They rent a hall once a month and have a big program and invite many people. They also have a program at the University of Minnesota once a week. This is one of the biggest universities in America so it's quite an important place to preach. I had gotten quite sick with a bad flu so I...

Srila Prabhupada Letter to Kirtanananda, 15th October 1976

“A film showing illegal techniques of distributing my books (Money shuffle) were never authorized by me. If it is actually a fact what you say, then stop it immediately. In all our dealings we should be above suspicion. They say 'First impressions are lasting.' If someone feels cheated by our men because they are using dubious methods of distribution and collecting money, our purity may be doubted and reputation spoiled. So please do not allow such film showing to take place until I have seen the film...

Peacock feather

Yesterday I was distributing books on the busiest street in Melbourne City center when I saw a young man coming along with a peacock feather in front of his cap. I stopped him and said "Hey, is that a peacock feather?" He said "Yes, just like what Krsna wears". I said, "Yes, and where did you get it from?" The man replied, "I have a friend that lives far away on a farm and there are many peacocks roaming about, I got a feather from there." I had a Science of Self Realisation and I showed the front cover...

Srila Prabhupada Letter to Bali Mardan, 31st December 1972

“Yes, if it is enhancing our distribution of books to wear warm clothes like coat-pants in winter, I have no objection, you may wear them. Of course we may take money for Krsna using any method of beg, borrow and steal, but more advanced understanding of Krsna consciousness process is that by telling the truth in a very palatable way-that is the most successful system. Your mentioning Bangladesh feeding of refugees, of course we are feeding sometimes the local inhabitants, up to 1,000 persons on some occasions, but there is no organized...

The Fish and the walrus: from Aisvarya das

Vijaya Prabhu has been very persuasive in encouraging me to write something on this forum for the pleasure of the Vaisnavas. My appreciation and respect for Vijaya Prabhu is very deep and now that he has gone global – diligently working to inspire, motivate and increase sankirtan even in the farthest reaches of our negativity and indifference to the Lord’s mission – my respect for him increases unlimitedly. Especially since he's doing it not in the best of health (I hope he doesn’t edit this out). So now I have to...

from Vedavyasa das My obeisances and Thank you Vijay prabhu Your story reminded me of one day when I was going door to door at a university in Vancouver. The Bhagavad gita's were going very well. At one door one lady student wasn't interested but then I heard some noise in the basement. I requested, can you ask the person downstairs? The lady tried and the person downstairs said, "not interested". Then I heard someone speaking on the phone upstairs. I asked the lady, "can you ask the man upstairs? She seemed surprised...

Book Distribution – The Greatest Welfare Activity

As a child, I remember my mother always motivating and encouraging me to read books. Apart from the regular literary educational books, she would give higher weightage to spiritual books, which she still does. Infact from the very moment I opened my eyes, I have been blessed to relish her mesmerising soulful voice reciting Sanskrit verses from our timeless Vedic Shastras. She always says, "These transcendental books are our real wealth. They are the words of God or Krishna. They are our spiritual, moral and righteous foundation....

Book Distribution During Sankirtan

Dear Devotees, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. During a recent visit to one main city in Khasadesa, our party distributed 225 Chinese Bhagavad-gitas. We did this through holding kirtan programs and making short, convincing presentations of Bhagavad-gita As It Is. We have found that once we capture peoples' hearts through kirtan, it is much more likely they will then purchase a book. I strongly believe that if we can combine kirtan with book distribution and prasadam, it is a very powerful way to...

Take this book, it will bring you great fortune!

Here at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival held in the city of Grahamstown, City of Saints, thousands of people from South Africa, and all over the world flock here for ten-days or so, in a "feeding-frenzy" of arts and culture. Part of the vibe and attraction are the exotic traders from Africa and other countries. During this festival while distributing Srila Prabhupada's books I approached a Chinese trader selling Jackets and warm clothing. I showed him Srila Prabhupada's books. He said that he did not speak English,...
