88 years old – and fired up for book distribution
In Italy there is a devotee, Yudisthira Prabhu, who is 88 years old and a disciple of Madhu Sevita Prabhu. He managed the Govinda Restaurant and preaching center in Milan for 25 years, but he recently retired from management. He's a strong, enthusiastic preacher, so he decided to continue serving Krsna by distributing Srila Prabhupada's books. And he is turning in some good scores. He may well be the oldest book distributor in our movement — an example we can learn from, of giving our life to distributing books to the end....

Blissful Arabic book distribution in the subways of New York City! From the tourist streets of London, to the beaches and universities of California, to the subways of NYC — more specifically, throughout the USA, Canada, UK, eight countries in Europe, Australia, and even in India — book distributors worldwide are relishing the truly unique nectar of Arabic book distribution. They are directly tasting the very special mercy that Srila Prabhupada specifically reserved just for Arabic book distribution, and once tasting it they...

Most devotees in our Society come to Kṛṣṇa consciousness because of receiving a book. As I travel around the world, I inevitably ask devotees I meet how they came to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Ninety-five percent of the time it’s because they received a book. More often than not it was the Bhagavad-gītā that convinced them. This is one of the reasons I mainly distribute Bhagavad-gītās—it’s what makes devotees. It’s also what brought me onto the bhakti path. Sometimes we hear this criticism about book distribution: “What is the use of book...

I was distributing books in devotional cloth during the recent Ratha Yatra in Auckland, NZ. This ecstatic festival was held as part of ISKCON's 50th anniversary celebration. As the procession moved along Queen Street, the busiest central shopping street in Auckland, I stopped Peter. Tall, young and confident, Peter studies English and history in Sydney and was visiting Auckland for the weekend. I introduced myself as a monk and handed him the Bhagavad Gita. "Ahhhh, Bhagavad Gita… this is amazing!" Peter immediately...

Dear highly esteemed devotees, Please accept my heartfelt obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Saturday, December 17 is World Enlightenment Day (WED). Historically, on this day, all over the world, devotees go out to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books. Everyone is invited to do his or her level best on this day. Each person’s effort is important, however humble it may seem at the time; because, a lot of devotees each doing a little, is powerful. Each individual contribution adds up fast. Prepare ahead of time by getting...

Recently, we read a nice story about Abdul, a gentleman of the Islamic faith who had been so inspired by The Higher Taste cookbook that he is now trying to be a vegetarian. Being so inspired by the cookbook, he bought all the other books on the table from Govinda Madhava Prabhu and even encouraged his friends to get some, and they did. Now, imagine how much happier he would have been if there had also been books in Arabic for Abdul to take with him. He would have been beyond thrilled, as I've seen when giving Arabic books to Muslims....

While distributing books at the Observatory in Los Angeles, I met a really amazing family. The father was very interested in the japa beads I had on display. He told me that he just finished a meditation workshop and was looking for a string of beads. I gave him one and showed him the book Chant and Be Happy. He became really happy. He told me that he's had wonderful experiences with the Krishnas. His four-year-old daughter had decided on her own to become a vegetarian. I asked her why, and she said, "Animals don't deserve to...

A renaissance in book distribution is blooming in North America. This revival is being led by a new pedigree of transcendental book distributors—the “Weekend Warrior.” Many “Warriors” are householders who have family obligations and who work during the week to earn their livelihood. But despite their busy professional and family lives, these devotees, eager for the nectar that comes from direct preaching, go out on weekends to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books. But the “Weekend Warrior” comes...

Hare Krsna, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! You may have heard that the Russian government is trying to stop book distribution. It passed a law that does not allow anyone from any religion to promote his beliefs, and if anyone gets caught, he invites a big fine. When the devotees in Russia heard this, it caused them transcendental anxiety. Devotees are known to be quite fearless, however, so they continued distributing anyway. One devotee was caught and went to court. Fortunately, he had a good lawyer. So...

In the morning I was doing a japa walk, and a person told me that today is Ekadasi. He said that whatever auspicious activity we perform gives a multiplied result. This gave me the impetus to set a goal of distributing ten Bhagavatam sets. When I returned home, I saw that I had only two sets. I called the BBT to order eight more, and I planned to distribute them after work. I also called Vinodh Prabhu and asked him to compose an email to friends and devotees and asked him to join me for book distribution in the evening. We planned to do BIG....
