Bhakta Steve in hospital.
Dear Vaisnavas and Vaisnavis,
I just received this very sad news from Hrdaya Caitanya Prabhu the president of the Radhadesh Temple in Belgium:
"I just want to let you know about some heavy incident that happened around 10 days ago.
Bhakta Steve prabhu who won the Benelux Srila Prabhupada marathon one month ago was on Sankirtan in the center of Nijmegen in front of a jewellery shop and saw that guys were robbing the shop. One boy was caught by the people in the store upon leaving the shop, the other guy jumped on his bike and bhakta Steve ran behind to catch him, he pulled him from his bike and tried to hold him while waiting for the police to come. Unfortunatly he had a gun and thus he shot bhakta Steve with 4 bullets, from which 3 went through his body and the 4th got stuck near his spine. His belly was a big mess. They immediately operated on him and tried to stop the bleeding which didn't work at first. After a precarious night they again operated on him for more than two hours and were able to stop the bleeding, they tried to repair his liver, took away the spleen and repaired many holes in his intestines and also the urine pipe coming from the kidneys etc. The fourth bullet will remain, otherwise it's again a delicate operation and it is stuck near sensitive nerves, but the spot itself is alright.
He is now out of intensive-care, wether he will function normally again is up to Krsna. It's a wonder that although he was shot so many times he survives. Devotees think that Krsna still a plan with him in this lifetime."
