Another CC set goes out in Santa Cruz

Chaitanya Charitamrita

On January 2nd, I joined Madhava Govinda Prabhu for book distribution in downtown Santa Cruz. He would call people over to our book stall, and then we would explain the books to them. He made jokes and started the conversations and let me explain some of the books.

On one occasion, he was engaged with someone else and a man came over to the book stall out of his own interest and started examining the books. I then came over to the stall and started to explain some of the books to him, but he said he already had all of these books. Then he spotted a Caitanya-caritamrta book on display and started flipping through the pages.

After looking through it he said, “I don’t have this book. Does it have any pictures?”

“Yes,” I responded and showed him the pictures.

He then asked me whether there was a book with more pictures, and I showed him the Avatar Art book. He seemed to like the pictures and said that he will take it.

Then he went back to inspecting the Caitanya-caritamrta and said, “I’ll also take this one!”

“This book comes in a set,” I replied, “if you want to take this book you have to take the whole set.”

“I have to take the whole box!” he exclaimed.

“Yes,” I replied. “This is the biography of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He started this entire movement. Because of him, all of these books were written.”

Then Madhava Govinda Prabhu arrived on the scene and said, “The printing cost of this set is one hundred dollars.”

“Can I pay fifty?” he asked, “I’m a retired man.”

“Can you pay a little more?” Madhava Govinda Prabhu requested.

“OK, sixty.”

We gave him the Avatar Art book and he paid sixty dollars with his credit card. Then he brought his car over and we put the Caitanya- caritamrta set inside.

Haribol!

Your servant,
Anshu Jayaprakash
