THE FIRE OF PURIFICATION

A boy approached our book table and listened attentively about the Bhagavad-gita, then gave a $10 donation. He told us how wildfires had swept through his community of Palos Verdes, destroying most homes, though his parents’ house was spared. He felt very sad because his high school had burned to ashes. It was his senior year there, and his eyes watered as he spoke.

The boy didn’t have words to describe what he’d been through, but he was starting to find them. He said he knew there was something providential about the fire, that it was somehow meant to change everything for the better.

In the Gita the boy had just bought, we showed him where Krsna mentions wind and fire as His energies. Then we gave him a maha-laddu, which he loved because it reminded him of his family’s food in Spain. We gave him a Higher Taste for his mom. Extremely grateful for our exchange at the table, he stayed a while, just enjoying hearing about Krsna.

Your servant,
