MY FIRST BOOK
From Peggy Rae Ordonez
I’ve been a supporter of Sastra Dana since its first meeting here at New Dvaraka, but my involvement has been one of financial and moral support. I’ve always considered myself too introverted to actually approach someone and attempt to distribute a book. This week I actually distributed my first book and I shared my story with Mahat-tattva Prabhu. He asked me to share it with you.
A co-worker that I’ve known for some time has been fascinated with the historical period of Napoleon and has become quite a scholar about that time period. I asked her if she thought perhaps her fascination had to do with a past life, and if she believed in reincarnation. She had never really thought about it before and found the idea interesting. The next time I worked with her, I brought her a copy of Coming Back. She loved the book and wanted to know were she could get a copy to buy for her own so she could share it with her girlfriend. I of course provided her with a book and she made a donation. It was all too easy! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Sastra Dana!
A comment by the editor: A few things we could learn from this story. One is that we can never know who could be a favorable receiver of Srila Prabhupada’s books. Potentially everyone are Krishna’s devotees and our duty is to give everyone the chance to get in contact with these wonderful books.
Another thing is that really anyone can engage in preaching and book distribution, as we can see from this example, at least by sponsoring the distribution of free books. Actually we can’t say “at least” because it is “a lot.”
Third thing is that helping others to come to Krishna makes one taste a unique bliss that is not of this material world. When Mataji Peggy approached me on Sunday she was so excited, her eyes were wide open and her whole attention was concentrated on the blissful experience she had just had.
Thank you Mataji Peggy for sharing the experience with us. We are also very grateful for your kind and steady support.
