Mystical Sankirtana – it can happen in any way

In today’s world, many people in both the younger and older generations have individual Facebook accounts. For devotees, this is useful as a platform to preach the glories of harinam sankirtana.

On October 4, 2018, I posted on Facebook an excerpt from a lecture by Srila Prabhupada at the University of Nairobi, in 1972, from the book Science of Self Realization. Therein Srila Prabhupada mentioned that knowledge of the soul is the most important knowledge, and this intrigued the heart of a Muslim colleague of mine at work. He commented on my post immediately, on how Islam and the Koran explains the soul. This is not the first time that he commented or liked postings I made of Srila Prabhupada writings. He always praises the writings of Srila Prabhupada. But what was spectacular this time? He mentioned the scripture of Islam, wherein the topic of the soul is discussed.

So, in reply, I wrote on Chapter 2 of the Bhagavad-gita, thoroughly describing the soul’s significance, how the body is distinct from the soul, the temporary and the eternal, etc. In return, he mentioned that he always had an interest in reading the Bhagavad-gita, the Vedas and Upanishad , but he was yet to find a Gita. This was a golden opportunity! I offered to give him my copy. But he insisted on purchasing one.

He got a new Gita from me that very afternoon, and we had a lengthy discussion on spiritual topics. He respects all religious teachings, and I could see that he is sincerely seeking a spiritual education. He was a fan of the Beatles, and this was a plus point to me. I told him how the Beatles met Srila Prabhupada and that George was a devotee and contributed much to the movement. I gave him a Science of Self Realization as a personal gift from me.

Whilst we are free to do book distribution in Malaysia, we have restrictions when preaching to the Muslims. This colleague, a pious Muslim man, was surely a diversified person, and for me this was just mystical! You can never tell when you will get a chance like this. Utility is the best  principle, so in all ways, by any methods, any social media platform — preach! Srila Prabhupada’s words are transcendental and spark the heart of everyone!

Thank you, Srila Prabhupada, for giving me this beautiful opportunity. It is just so ecstatic!

Your Servant,
